A review of The Lollygagger
by Diego Kontarovsky

The Lollygagger is a silent comedy starring Pat DeNicola as a hapless vagabond who is his own worst enemy when it comes to doing errands.

The Lollygagger could be James and Robert's criticism on modern man. His wife sends him out to buy bread, but he blows all his cash on booze. The man has a wandering eye for the ladies, but turns to petty crime when faced with the prospect of failing his unseen wife, which is James and Robert's statement about the importance of family. However, both actions drive him face-first into an unseen lamppost, which could be James and Robert's way of saying that dames are nothing but trouble. In this way, we are all the Lollygagger. But will we ever learn?

The Lollygagger is one of the most flawless movies Dastoli Digital has to offer. Its biggest drawback is Donny Copeland, who completely hams it up and ruins everything.

Here is what the Dastolis have to say about The Lollygagger:

ROBERT:

"The Lollygagger was shot and completed in less than 24 hours. That even beat out Just Another Day at the Office, which it was almost three times longer than. The Lollygagger was done in what was probably the most efficient time for us (this era would continue into The Up and Up). If there was sound work that we had to do then I'm sure we wouldn't have made it, and the only real effect that needed to be done was putting the word Bar on the overhang, but it's still an incredible feat. It seems that every other day now we set renders that take longer than it took to make The Lollygagger."

JAMES:

"Of course if we were to do The Lollygagger now, we'd avoid showing the modern cars. I didn't really mind them at the time though. They were an anachronism that was similar to the anachronisms we had in The Black Iris."

What? I thought The Black Iris took place in modern day! God dammit James!
