Alien Pacing
A review of Automated Assets by Drew Lindo
Another sketch of a short film comes our way from the Dastoli’s in the form of Automated Assets, their first short film comprised of fully computer generated actors. Assets attempts to take the grandeur of robots down a notch by depicting them as average joes having inane and meaningless everyday conversations. Conversations dealing with such day to day subjects as, say, ham.
The comedic pacing of this short is interesting to say the least, as the film recreates, in mind-numbing detail, the monotony and boredom involved in spending time with these droids. You feel less interesting and less charismatic for having watched the film.
THE GOOD: The robots are well designed. There are some laughs to be had, but not many.
THE BAD: The bland world created for the bland robots and their bland conversation succeeds in making the film…bland.
THE DASTOLI: 2 out of 5 Dastolis. This is an idea movie, a “wouldn’t it be funny if….”
No, it wouldn’t. Not really.
